Most copyright users are NEW creators. The "real" creators our legislators should be concerned with are those who are starting out in the creative process, and the copyright laws should foster, and be condusive, to a creative enviornment. The basic argument against this legislation is it hurts NEW creators, the "little guy", who is supposed to be protected by their elected represenatives.

The other special interests, even though copyright users, are thinking of themselves, not overall good copyright legislation. That is why there are organizations that SHOULD be opposing the legislation "holding back" opposition because they are concerned with the White Paper, or Electronic Publishing, or whatever.

In the end, they are simply "trading off" their opposition to the extension because they figure there will be a bigger copyright crisis up the road. Quite frankly, this is a bad move on their part.
