It depends. Which very famous fictional character? Is it in books currently published? In a popular series? One could very well come up against trademark or licensing law as well as copyright, and it may not matter whether or not you would make any money from your stories.
That said, I don't think any copyright or license holders have yet objected to fiction being published on fan bulletin boards, e.g. by fans of Star Trek or Star Wars.
