Are you asking about the duration of US or UK protection of such works. For the UK, it does not depend on the date of publication but in most instances on the date of the author's death. THe general rule under the new legislation implementing the EU term directive is 70 years from the author's death, so unless the author died before 1927, the works are probably still in copyright. WHether they remain in copyirght in the US is one for somebody else on the list I am afraid
