Many have made suggestions on how the "profits from crime" (book royalties) could be seized in the United States. But these fail to recognize that none of the jurisprudence exists in Canada, as far as I know. I doubt that one could sue for damages after conviction (unless a restitution order were part of the original sentence), and certainly not if the person were acquitted.
I may be wrong on this, since I am not a criminal lawyer; the Canadian legal tradition is different.
