Hello there: I was given your address as a source of information to, hopefully, answer a web/copyright issue I was wondering about.
I'll make this brief, since I know that you're probably very busy.
If I were to use the image, say, of the Mona Lisa on a website, would there be any legal recourse in terms of copyright?
I know that no one owns specific copyright to the Mona Lisa image, but that you *can* own copyright to your particular reproduction of the Mona Lisa image. In other words, scanning Mona from an art book and posting it on the web is probably a no-no.
BUT, say for the sake of argument you did, how could the Acme Publishing Company *know* that the image of the Mona Lisa you are posting is theirs, given that there are *thousands* of reproductions of the Mona Lisa available.
In any event, I appreciate your taking the time to look at my question.
Regards,
