As a non-lawyer, I feel this is fair use, similar to quotes in book reviews, or more to the point even, the custom of reproducing the covers of books and record albums in newspaper/magazine articles when reviewing them.

Wouldn't such a sample be a sort of "audio name" of the item, a mere reference?

I'm interested in this because my forthcoming website will reproduce, without permission (although fairly *small*, and I noted on one of the copyright pages on the Web something about that), the covers of various books in a bibliography next to my reviews of them.
