Maps: big thank you!

A big thank you to the many people on this list who have done the maps thing for me. I've learned, I think, that:

  1. From a theoretical standpoint, I was right to view the copyright situation of maps as anomalous; almost nowhere else do uncopyrightable fact and copyrightable expression mesh so thoroughly.
  2. From a practical standpoint, in my particular case, given my approach, I'm almost certainly protected by "sweat-of-the-brow"; which is certainly good to hear: it's an aptly monikered doctrine.
  3. I should have checked the archives of this list first; you were kind to overlook that!

In addition, many of the subsidiary points brought up were fascinating; and I've kept every post, because I'm sure to be referring to many of them as I build my website.

I'd also like to take the opportunity to thank the list-Powers-that-be and principal ongoing contributors to this list for providing a forum where an interested layman like me can be a (mostly listening) party to some top-level legal opinion in an interesting field. Where else could I do that?

Best,
