Conference re New Can. Copyright Law

CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT      NEW CANADIAN COPYRIGHT ACT      ***MANAGING THE IMPACT***      TORONTO, CANADA ~ JUNE 24 AND 25, 1997 Insight Communications and I have organized a conference on Canada's new Copyright Act resulting from Bill C-32. This is the most massive, significant and controversial revision to Canadian copyright law in 75 years. For example, the new law introduces:

• neighbouring rights for performers, record producers and broadcasters
• statutory minimum damages
• summary civil proceedings
• "wide" injunctions
• blank tape levy
• book importation restrictions
• new liabilities on educational institutions and libraries, incluig for free-standing convenience photocopiers
