I am reading the messages in this thread with interest, but I am not going to respond since I really do think the horse has been sufficiently flogged as to my point of view.
As I told Gabriel, from my perspective the issue is one better discussed over a favorite beverage in a nice pub, where we can see and hear each other for cues as to meaning and intent. At least one person thought I was mounting a personal attack -- that was not my meaning and intent, and I regret having submitted an email to the list that could be interpreted as a personal attack.
I'll continue reading the thread, and if I see something that changes my opnion, I'll send an email. Meanwhile, however, silence means dissent. :->
