As I see it, the phrase is currently in the public domain--nobody has registered any "rights" over it. Why not simply produce the shirts/stickers without trying to exclusively appropriate the phrase? If someone (perhaps the person from whom you heard it) comes to you for a share of your profit, ask yourself what the "right thing" would be, at the time.
