I have written to both my senators and received only perfunctory responses. In one case, it isn't even clear whether the staff member who read and answered the letter read it closely enough to know whether I favored or opposed the extension. I suspect it takes more than one letter to get them to pay more than pro-forma attention. A visit from a delegation of constituents is probably more effective still. Is anyone in this thread a former or current congressional staffer who could confirm (or deny) this?

I suspect also that email has even less influence than ordinary mail. Does anyone know of a Senator who actually pays attention to the email?

Senator Kohl was opposed in the 104th Congress, on the grounds that the extension is unfair to the public.
