Copyright in Arrangement

Complex copyright notices are not impossible to produce. The Episcopal Church's _Hymnal 1982_ identifies, for every hymn, which parts of the music and text (verse-by-verse, in some cases) are under copyright. The information doesn't answer all questions but it goes a reasonable way toward assisting a choir director to figure out which tunes and words can be printed in the church bulletin without obtaining clearance, and which must be cleared.

In any case, for the publisher's boilerplate to change from "no part of this work" to "no copyrightable feature of this work" would be less insulting to the public, slightly more informative, and no more expensive than printing "no part of this work."
