One of my clients wants to quote the lyrics from L. L. Cool J.'s song, "I Need Love" in a story that she has written and for which she is seeking a publisher. I believe that the underlying copyright is owned by Def-Jam Music. Can anyone tell me how to begin the process of confirming who holds the rights in these lyrics and obtaining permission for this use?
