Well, Osuma Tesuka's original version "Kimba the White Lion" ("Jungle Tataei" in its 1950-54 comicbook serialisation) is already considered a classic. In truth there is almost nothing original about "The Lion King".
Interestingly, Disney has deliberately manipulated the availability of much of the finest Japanese Animation -- AFAIK they hold the US Rights to almost all of the animator/director Hayao Miyazaki's work, and have yet to distribute any of it -- but then, what else should we expect from the bloated corporate spawn of a nazi-loving corpsicle?
