Laura's MIDI Heaven closed down, and a question.

I just received word through another list to which I belong that Laura's MIDI heaven has been closed down after a complaint made by the Harry Fox Agency. You can all read about it at

   http://www.web-street.com/MIDIS/

Can someone on this list point me in a direction where I might find a list of countries which have not signed the international copyright conventions, and even better, countries which do not recognize copyright because of cultural reasons or legal heritage?

It occurs to me that there would be delicious irony in the possibility that the future great (electronic) libraries of the world might be located on godforsaken little islands with some tenuous connection to otherwise third world countries which get development assistance from profits gained through sponsorship of Web sites the function of which is to treat information as knowledge rather than as commodity. My guess is that for minimal risk leading to large potential profits (through advertising revenue) here is an area which needs urgently to be explored by venture capitalists. Anyone want to form a partnership to buy an island? 8-)
