One of the major newswire services puts the following notice on the bottom of the stories which they distribute over the Internet:
"Copyright (c) 1999 Name Inc. All rights reserved. The information contained in the Name News report may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed without the prior written authority of Name Inc."
It appears that other news outlets commonly quote these stories, sometimes at some length. I don't see how the last sentence could be effective to create any protection for the contents of the stories beyond the limitations of copyright. Does anyone have any ideas?
