The snap answer is that copyright in an instructional work (like a recipe) covers the text of the work but not the results achieved by following the instructions, which are more akin to an unprotectable idea. The one exception I am aware of applies only to architectural works. So I can't see an infringement by baking cakes following a copyrighted recipe and taking pictures of them, unless the pictures infringe a copyright in a photograph accompanying the recipe in the original cookbook. Your own tips on frosting techniques you applied to make your cake, if written by you, should not be a problem.
