Leakholes of Copyright or: Escape to the Rebels
I recently hold a paper in my hands that included all member states of the Berne Convention. The Berne Convention was once set up to make it possible for owners of intellectual property to claim the right to their property outside their own country.
The list includes nearly all states, missing only several second or third world countries which I later will call the "rebels".
Suggest the following setup: Interlectual property such as Music-CDs are sold from one of the rebels. Let's suggest the rebel has no interest in US owned capital, such as Iran, Lybia or North Korea. How is it possible for a global company to prohibit this piracy?
Now let's optimize the setup. Globalization in terms of distribution channels could mean the Internet. What can prevent a surfer in an industrialized country not to use such a facility?
