I do not know the name of a reported decision, but a few years ago I represented a faculty member who was sued for copyright infringement by Cal State University. Since the case was settled and the terms thereof are confidential, I cannot discuss how the matter was resolved. I am available however to outline various issues many of which may be common to any case in which a copyright defendant is a professor and the plaintiff is the university-employer -- mainly work-for-hire issues and potentially first amendment and related cross-claims as in the case in which I represented a professor/defendant.
