Date: June 15, 1999
In late May 1999, the U.S. Copyright Office released an important report on the complex copyright issues affecting distance education. That report examines the growth of distance education, the changing technologies, and the problems with applying existing law to the new environment for innovative education. The report also includes proposals for significant changes in the law, all of which are of great importance to educators throughout the country.
The Copyright Management Center, at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, has prepared a summary of the U.S. Copyright Office report. It is available at the CMC website:

Readers will find links to the summary under "What's New" and under "Distance Education." From the summary, readers will also find directions to the full report, available on the U.S. Copyright Office website.
We are pleased to make this summary available, and we hope it is helpful to the academic community.
