REGISTRATION CLOSES THIS FRIDAY JULY 9 for the symposium on "Scholarship, Intellectual Ownership and the Law", to be held in Canberra on July 15-16.
The program, registration form, speakers' CVs and abstracts, and information on hotel accommodation are available on the Internet (http://www.naf.org.au/iosymp.htm). We will continue to update the site as additional CVs and abstracts are received.
This symposium is relevant to staff dealing with ownership, copyright and licensing of intellectual property, including the written word, images and scientific data. It will cover proposed and existing legislation related to creators and consumers of cultural property; access to information, including ownership of publicly-generated data in databases (WIPO proposal); online publishing, copyright and fair dealing provisions; ownership and the biota, including human genetic information and bioprospecting; and licensing issues and wealth creation.
The symposium is hosted by the National Academies Forum and the National Library of Australia. IP Australia and the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts are the major sponsors, and additional sponsors are listed on the Web site.
