COMING INTO FORCE OF CERTAIN REGULATIONS AND SECTIONS OF THE COPYRIGHT ACT The copyright regulations relating to the importation of books and to certain exceptions for educational institutions, libraries, archives and museums will come into force on September 1, 1999.

Those regulations will be published in the Canada Gazette, Part II on August 18, 1999.

Sections 30.1 to 30.3 of the Copyright Act will come into force on September 1, 1999.

DEFINITION OF "NETWORK" On July 31, 1999 a proposed regulation on the definition of "network" for purposes of section 30.8 of the Copyright Act was prepublished in the Canada Gazette, Part I with a 15 day period for comments.

REGULATIONS PRESCRIBING NETWORKS
(COPYRIGHT ACT)

REGLEMENT SUR LA DESIGNATION DE RESEAUX
(LOI SUR LE DROIT D+AUTEUR)
NETWORK
RESEAUX

  1. For the purpose of subsection 30.8(9) of the Copyright Act, the following are prescribed networks:
    (a) networks that are networks within the meaning of the
    definition "network" in subsection 2(1) of the Broadcasting Act; and
    (b) networks that consist of two or more programming under-takings
    that are owned by the same person or group of persons and that have a practice of common programming or an ar-rangement by which they share programs, as the case may be.
  2. Les reseaux designes pour l+application du paragra-phe 30.8(9) de la Loi sur le droit d+auteur sont les suivants: a) les reseaux vises par la definition de <<reseau>> au paragraphe 2(1) de la Loi sur la radiodiffusion; b) les reseaux composes de deux ou plusieurs entreprises de programmation qui appartiennent a la meme personne ou au meme groupe de personnes et qui ont une pratique de pro-grammation commune ou ont conclu une entente de partage d+emissions, selon le cas.

ENTREE EN VIGUEUR 2. These Regulations come into force on October 1, 1999.

2. Le present reglement entre en vigueur le 1er octobre 1999.
