That's not correct. A month or two ago, I was just kind of curious and was looking for stuff related to patent and copyright on Ebay. There was at least one seller selling his patent; I think there were two.
(Off-topic, there were also people selling a number of copies of patents, especially design patents to Star Wars toys; but I realize we're talking here about patent rights, not the paper copies.)
