Managing Copyright and Ownership Issues of Digital Materials in Libraries and Archives: A Global Perspective
A book edited by Anne Rothfeld, B.C. Ziegler and Company Library, Lanham, MD USA
As libraries, archives and museums make their collections available on the World Wide Web, copyright and ownership issues have become a growing, possibly glaring, problem. How do these institutions manage and smooth over these questions? How do these institutions give credit where credit is due? This idea of digital exhibits, libraries and archives appeals to many, especially for those who cannot afford to travel to a certain area. Implementing these digital materials raises many more issues than anticipated, including legal and economic issues. Managers of digital materials have learned to manage their site in order to keep the materials up-to-date and to deliver them in a timely fashion. Digital materials are becoming a reality in libraries and archives and more guidelines are needed to ensure the success of the programs. Research into the broad spectrum of issues surrounding these programs is needed to guide libraries and archives in designing and implementing appropriate copyright policies.
The primary objective of this book is to provide comprehensive coverage of the copyright and ownership issues of digital materials in libraries and archives. The book's contributed chapters from academic and practitioner authors will explore the managerial, employee, organizational, community and customer aspects of copyright and ownership through research studies and case studies.
Representative topics include but are not limited to the following:
Copyright and ownership in digitization of library and archival collections Moving data and images from print format to digital format Issues of licensure of users and digital information Legal matters regarding copyright and ownership Copyright issues in academia sponsored digital information Delivery of digital information and citing the sources Economics and financing of copyright licenses Technical management and maintenance of digital materials Intellectual management of digital materials Collection development and copyright in a digital environment Solutions to the resolving of copyright and ownership problems International issues in copyright and ownership Future of copyright and ownership
