I was admitted to Wisconsin on the diploma privilege, moved to Virginia where I clerked, and had no trouble passing the bar exam there with only "night before" brushup... I think the Wisconsin bar privilege works because our state only has two law schools, both of good quality, and they are quite conscious of the porivilege and are at pains to make sure there is no problem.
