A few years ago one of the leading M&A firms in New York started putting a copyright notice on some of their deal documents in an attempt, it seemed, to claim a proprietary interest in certain unusual deal structures expressed in those documents. It caused a bit of comment but was generally ignored in practice, and I'm not aware of any efforts made to enforce the claimed copyright.
