copyright of photographs or audiovisual archival materials

I am trying to determine what "special considerations" exist in dealing with copyright of photographic or audiovisual archival
(unpublished) materials. I have reviewed copyright registration
information for the visual arts, motion pictures (including video recordings), and sound recordings, but have been unable to locate specific information on this topic.

Is there anyone on the list who can shed some light on this? I would be happy to summarize the responses for the list. Thank you.
