That's not quite true. Deja News collected a listserv I subscribed to because several educational organizations put the postings on a news server as a courtesy to the educators of the organization (to save mailbox space). Deja News then rebroadcast the listserv postings, which were then picked off and reprinted by several national magazines and used by vendors in marketing campaigns to disparage competitors.

The original posters felt that their remarks were intended for the list alone, and had no knowledge that Deja News was harvesting the listserv posts without their consent.
