i thought the conclusion based on the considered thought of members of this list was that you couldn't just put your copyrighted piece into the "public domain" since there is no mechanism for relinquishing the copyright...

and once upon a time this thread dealt with mailing list threads, not newsgroup threads... did i miss it or was there no closure on the use of mailing list posts outside of the mailing list, or the archiving of such posts if the list has a 'no archive' policy?
