In the "old days" blue prints and home designs were registered as graphic/pictorial works and protection was limited to copying of the drawings themselvse. Under the Architectural Works amendment, howevever, blue prints are now registered as architectural works and both the drawings and the three dimensional buildings built based on these drawings are both protected under copyright law.

I've been researching architectural copyright protection and it appears that a home design can be protected and filed as an architectural work and a separate filing as a graphical or pictorial work. Why the two separate registrations? What's the benefit to the client?
